Can you be Christian and Muslim? Very random, but I will find a way to relate it to hair ![]()
I grew up Episcopal. I did not get very involved in my church because I felt like an outsider. While it is an all Black church, it is very conservative with a lot of elite Black folk. While this is a great thing, my perception was I couldn’t be apart of all the exclusive groups because I was not rich enough. In college I grew very close to a Baptist Bell that converted into Islam. She taught me so much about religion and life. Reading the Qur’an and learning about Islam, I understood why many people convert to Islam. What disappointed me is at the age of 22, she postponed her dreams, dropped out of college, got married and had kids. She had big goals that I think she put aside for reasons I cannot understand.

Any way, Rev. Ann Holmes Redding caught my eye. This loced queen is an Episcopal priest of 20-years. The confusing part is that she puts on a Hijab headscarf, prays five times a day and worships one God Allah. She states that Jesus helped her find Allah.
Ms. Chaundra, sole proprietor of Naturally Me graciously sent me her amazing natural products!! It was like Christmas yal! On my way home after picking up the goods from my PO Box—the car was filled with a fabulous aroma. I couldn’t believe the smell filtered through the box. The smell was a combination of a 100% Soy Pumkin Spice candle and Joyful feet!
I meet Ms. Shawnta on Twitter. (The internet is a beautiful thing.) Her story enforces the fact that there are no rules in how you should go natural, or limitations to any style, even locs. Shawnta can be described as a queen foraging her path in life, student sometimes… work all the time, internet junkie, a writer, a mother, a book-a-holic, a shop-a-holic, an artist, and loving life! She has been on all sides of natural rockin the ‘fro, locs, taking them out, wearing twist outs or even a flat ironed wrap. Wow! You may visit her youtube channel or blog, Peace, Love and Namaste.

Yesterday the news has been working my nerves. When I started to watch CNN they were discussing the issue of the President not submitting his original birth certificate. Ughh. Don’t we think he is vested by now? The news continued to talk about Michael Jackson’s doctor and the racial profiling of the Harvard Professor…then CNN’s Black in America. I was a little overwhelmed with ‘What is Means to be Black’ and not just being. Being Black is definitely an experience in itself. There are needs for Black outlets. (Like Kinnks.com). But does everything have to be about race? It can be exhausting. OH WELL… so, more on race…
