Why I went natural?! according to Christina J

My hair texture is dry and curly, when I was younger my mom would use African Pride and of course my hair was healthy and long. Low and behold when I got the privilege of doing my own hair I broke it all off. Using everything from Pink Moisture and World of curls I was greasy as hell, like that soul glow commercial from, “Coming back to America”!

Then when I started working I save up enough money to start getting my hair straighten and colored every two weeks, but that was a waste of money for me as my scarf I use to wrap my hair with always gave me migraines and my hair curled up the same day from taking a shower.

Terry McMillan on Oprah

Did yal see Terry on Oprah today?

On twitter NappyAsIWannaBe said “I’m watching Oprah & I just had a serious hair-gasm while looking at that fro @MsTerryMcMillan was sporting! FIERCE”

It’s true!  I had the same reaction!

The show’s theme was, once you find your authentic self, you will find happiness. Kind of perfect for a Natural Hair blog uh?  Jenny McCarthy, Terry’s ex husband, and even Terry shared the same thing.

Missed it?

Inspiration from Traci Simpson of Satin Blends

image
Traci Simpson, is the creative force behind Satin Blends. Satin Blends consists of all natural products for the entire family. You will find everything you need from head to toe, including, hair and scalp treatments, body butters, bath salts, foot scrubs and more. Satin Blends products, which can also be customized, are made with essential oils, organic carrier oils and natural preservatives.

Traci’s Hair Story…
I started my natural hair journey in March 2006.  The decision to no longer perm my hair came along with me making the transition into a vegetarian/holistic lifestyle.  It was a rough hair journey.  As my hair was going through the detox stage I battled with “cant do anything with my hair” syndrome.

My hair had an interesting look…I had inches and inches of new growth with straight permed ends.  My natural hair transition was so challenging for me that I purchased a perm because of that “cant do anything with my hair” stage.  I am soooo thankful that I held strong and didn’t perm my hair.  Being Natural is who I am! I had to embrace my hair in order to love it.  Although my hair has different textures - I still love being natural.  I found my purpose in my naturalness.

As a result of changing my lifestyle, I stumbled across my purpose.  I had no idea what God had in store for me.  Being vegetarian/holistic/natural, I had to change the products that I used on my skin and my hair.  I attended the Natural Hair Expo in 2009 in which I purchased raw shea butter for the first time.

I’m not sure where the idea came from but I decided to put the shea butter, olive oil, vitamin E and Lavender in the blender (my first recipe).  I let a coworker try my concoction in which she loved it and wanted to purchase a jar.  This was the birth of Satin Blends.

Satin Blends products are all natural, organic and Vegan.  All Satin Blends product are handmade with Passion & Love.  Our products are specially blended with raw unrefined shea butter, organic essential oils. organic carrier oils (such as Jojoba Oil, Olive Oil, etc) and natural preservatives.

Stylin Up Do

I have vowed to keep my hair in more protective styles.  My staple style is two-stand twists.  I was starting to get bored with styling them, when BAM I had a stlish up do!
