I imagined debating politics, and inspiring social change
I imagined being grown and sexy hanging with other Black Yuppies

I have been a fan of India from her first album. Her positive words of wisdom are refreshing, and a much needed break from the average songs of gyration. I’ve grown listening to her music, knowing that “I am not me hair”, and I should love my “Brown Skin” or its okay not to be the average girl in a music “Video”! I can go on for days on India….

Nina Simone was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and civil rights activist. Although she disliked being categorized, Simone is most associated with jazz music. Simone originally aspired to become a classical pianist, but her work covers an eclectic variety of musical styles that include classical, jazz, blues, soul, folk, R&B, gospel, and pop. Through out her musical career, Nina Simone wore afro, and traditional African inspired styles like the one in the video.
