I was in Las Vegas during the Oscars. Got a little R&R away from home with several people I hold close to my heart. It was awesome! I watched the Oscars in my hotel room (West cost time is so much better for these show.)
Imagine my excitement when I saw Viola Davis and Esperanza Spalding rockin’ their natural hair!!!! Yes, I saw the LA Times Spread with Viola, and Espernza’s afro before…but this is the Oscars. The second most watched TV event after the Super Bowl!! It is hard for me to contain my excitement while I type these words!!
Being natural for 10+ Years I have been told the craziest things. I’ve listed four natural hair misconceptions below..
One…You have to have curly hair to go natural
There are lots of naturals currently. Unfortunately, you do not see too many naturals with darker skin, and kinkier hair in the media. Hence, ladies use it as an excuse. “Oh, I can’t go natural because my hair doesn’t do that…or its not the right grade. Errp…Shut Down - Ms. Viola Davis is a beautiful example that natural hair is beautiful - with any skin tone, or hair type! Just check her LA Times spread!
Two…Men Do Not Find Natural Hair Attractive
At a time when Rhianna may be re-entering a relationship with Chris Brown – we don’t always see healthy Black relationships. According to Instyle reported Mrs. Viola Davis say
“My husband wanted me to take the wig off.” He said, ‘If you want to wear it for your career, that’s fine, but in your life wear your hair. Step into who you are!’ It’s a powerful statement.”
As for whether she’ll ever return to wigs, which she’s worn for years, she said: “We’ll see. I think I’ll change it up every once in a while. It gives me flavor. It makes me feel like I’m spicing my life up a bit.”
What a supportive husband! There are lots of good men out there who should love you for who you are, not what is on your head!

If you’re like me, you re-twist your hair on Sunday. This weekend, I will finish my hair routine on Saturday because…
I love the super bowl.
While I love the commercials…I also love how it brings people together.

Around the time of the ball dropping in Times Square I set aside time to review. Review the past year, and develop a plan for the next year.
It seems like 2011 just flew by! For much of it, I feel like I was auto pilot, the details seem blurry. Our multi-tasking, social media, smart phones, tablets, gadgets, tv and whatever distractions from faith, friends and family. In 2012, I want to slow down and be a little more present. I started 2011 by sharing tips to achieve your Resolution.
2011’s Buzz was natural hair’s popularity and come back!!
The number of black women who say they do not use products to chemically relax or straighten their hair jumped to 36% in 2011, up from 26% in 2010, according to a report by Mintel, a consumer spending and market research firm. Sales of relaxer kits dropped by 17% between 2006 and 2011, according to Mintel. [1]
Those who follow natural hair can’t be surprised.
Even Dr. Drew touched on the topic of natural hair!

The video below features receipe for Yellow Beat and Apricot Curry. I just finished reading By Any Greens Necessary. The book has changed my prospective on food. I definitley have a goal of becoming a vegetarian in the near future. With yummy vegetarian recipes like Deb’s, the transition will be easy! Did I mention Deb is rocking the best chucky twist out as well?

It was a difficult choice… Jill Scott’s Hate On Me or Golden.
It is so easy to get caught up in the daily grind, you forget to live your life like it is GOLDEN
I’m holding on to my freedom,
Can’t take it from me,
I was born into it,
It comes naturally,
I’m strumming my own freedom,
Playing the god in me,
Representing his glory,
Hope he’s proud of me,
