As I was reading this article, Around Greensboro: African Pride Hair Care by a Black University I grew angry.
Advertising Campaign:
African Pride Supports relaxers and texturizers – products we do not support on this site. In addition to these products that do the opposite of promoting African Pride they run add campaigns similar to Dr. Miricle. African Pride shares a national media image that Black hair is broken, and needs to be fixed by using their products.
Company History:
Also, in reading Hair Story by Ayana D. Byrd and Lori L. Tharps I learned a few shit marks about the so called African Pride company. Products were claimed to have ingredients grown in Africa with the sweet scent of watermelon L Of course this is a White company. Any way, Brian Mark sued a small competing black owned company for his use of the word Africa, claiming it violated his trademark. How do you try and prevent people from using the word Africa? That is some real shit! African Pride is now manufactured buy Colomer, Usa if it really matters.
Side Note: If interested in natural hair, it is worth every penny to buy the book Hair Story! I read the book, and meet the authors at a book signing and they know their stuff.
Product Ingredients:
The ingredients suck—starting with petroleum.
According to the Cosmetics database has a moderate hazard score of 6 out of 10.
