My Bros Locs

My mother was not thrilled when I decided to go natural.  Why don’t you just press your hair, she would suggest.  The funny thing is that two of my brothers have locs.  I would always go and watch the Little Mermaid in my brother’s room over and over until I feel asleep.  He would take a loc and tickle me in my ear to wake me up.

In the early 90s my older brother had his locs on the top of his head.  The sides were shaved.  Now, locs for many have transformed to almost a metro sexual style.  Don’t tell him I said that!!

Locs, in my opinion have “levels”.  When deciding to loc, it’s super important to plan ahead to achieve the desired look.  Please note that one level is not better than the other, just different styles!

Level One:
Naturally locked, thick, uncultivated or uneven in the size
Rastafarian

Level Two: Uncultivated or not even in size Back in the day when Lenny Kravitz had locs Level Three: Cultivated, even in size Locs styled by Thierry Baptiste thierry Level Four: Sisterlocks are cultivated, even and thin in size Dr. JoAnne Cornwell, inventor of Sisterlocks ;

When you decided to loc, how did you decide what style of locs you wanted? Answer Below…

My brother also has locs - he’s actually on his second set.  The first set was accidental - a neglected set of comb twists - lol. I also started the second set with comb twists. Every time he comes over for me to re-tighten and I see the progress it makes me want some.

I plan on locking one day but for now I’m just a loc stalker :o)

I to use to be a loc stalker until one day I just decided to do it, after a year of waiting…...I started off rocking a natural for 6 years then finally I just said forget it, and finally went through the process.It was well worth it, I love my loc’s !!!!

I just started my locs June 6th, I have been natural since 05 (I only pressed it a few times just to see how long it really was!). For me the decision was cultivated locs using the interlocing method. My decision was based on my lifestyle and income (I can’t afford sisterlocs LOL!) I am very early in the locing process but I do feel that it was the best decision for me.

I had a perm burned scalp so I had the stylist shave my hair off. As my hair began to grow in I just started training it to twist in small (very small) segments. This was 1990. Most family and friends thought I had lost my mind or that I was going thru a phase. They are tiny and beautiful. I have groomed them myself for many years but recently sought help. Of course stylists don’t want to deal with my tiny locs and combine them but I don’t care because they are so small it still looks like long natural hair. LOC’D TO DEATH!
