I don’t watch TV often, but I was just mentally exhausted last night after coming home from work at 8pm. Soon as I got through the door, I plopped down on the coach and watched TV. I started watching a re-run of the CW’s sitcom, The Game (Like Girlfriends, also produced by Kelsey Grammer). Tia Mowry’s character is a doctor in training. One of Tia’s patients, a spunky, wig-changing black lady started give her words of advice. The patient described Tia; something along the lines of “side part, tuck under kind of girl”. Tia had a short relaxed hair cut, with a side part and it was conservatively curled and tucked under. The patient on the other hand, had a different color wig of various lengths every sense. The patient described her hair change, as an outlook on life. She explained: It is okay to stand out. Do what feels right to you, not what other people expect from you. Who cares what people think, DO YOU!
I guess that’s why I like this video so much. It is way easier to wear weaves, or wear your hair straight. Natural Hair is a challenge that requires self exploration. The hardest part for many, is you no longer blend in, you are noticed.
