Story of a Christian Muslim: Rev Ann Holmes Redding

Can you be Christian and Muslim?  Very random, but I will find a way to relate it to hair smile

I grew up Episcopal.  I did not get very involved in my church because I felt like an outsider.  While it is an all Black church, it is very conservative with a lot of elite Black folk.  While this is a great thing, my perception was I couldn’t be apart of all the exclusive groups because I was not rich enough.  In college I grew very close to a Baptist Bell that converted into Islam.  She taught me so much about religion and life.  Reading the Qur’an and learning about Islam, I understood why many people convert to Islam.  What disappointed me is at the age of 22, she postponed her dreams, dropped out of college, got married and had kids.  She had big goals that I think she put aside for reasons I cannot understand.

Any way, Rev. Ann Holmes Redding caught my eye.  This loced queen is an Episcopal priest of 20-years.  The confusing part is that she puts on a Hijab headscarf, prays five times a day and worships one God Allah.  She states that Jesus helped her find Allah.

In the TV interview I saw snippets of, she was brought to tears with the thought of not being able to baptizing babies and teach Sunday school.

I interpreted her sadness to missing the familiar.  In my mind, she has become a Muslim, but wants to still embrace Christian customs or culture.  This can be compared to atheist Jews. They are Jewish by culture, but just do not believe in God.

I do believe it is possible to be multiple religions.  Many things overlap, but for some reason we stress the differences of world religions not the commonalities.

I also saw this featured on the news one night - it was very interesting.
