I think a lot about nature verses nurture. Who would we be with a strong support system vs a dysfunctional family. Are we destined to be who we are, or does our environment mold who we are? I guess it is safe to say our environment can shape, or suffocate our potential. Some of our World’s greatest leaders’ strength was born from adversity. The thought of Tupac, his greatness and early death truly saddens me.

Tupac’s “Dear Mama” is officially inducted into the Library of Congress…
More than a decade after Tupac’s death, his mother Afeni Shakur has had the ability to sell millions of albums by keeping his voice current. She founded the Georgia-based Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation, which provides art programs for young people. She also manages a fashion clothing line, Makaveli Branded in which ALL proceeds go to his charity!
When renovating the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation’s center in 2005, Afeni told MTV News that her tough past was a catalyst for starting an arts foundation. “When Tupac was 13 and I was homeless,” she said, “Tupac was in the 127th Street Ensemble [theater group] right here in New York. Those people, I believe, saved his life. So what we try to do is be that for the next generation of young people.”
The Library of Congress called Tupac’s song “Dear Mama” “a moving and eloquent homage to both the murdered rapper’s own mother and all mothers struggling to maintain a family in the face of addiction, poverty and societal indifference.”
“Dear Mama” marks only the third hip-hop recording to gain entry into the Library of Congress. 1995’s “Dear Mama” also becomes the Recording Registry’s most recent entrant, coming four years after Nirvana’s Nevermind, which was previously the “youngest” Library of Congress inductee.
As an ex-Black Panther I bet she wore her natural hair locs or twa with great pride and meaning. I wonder if any Black Panther ladies had a relaxer? Was it kool, or frowned down on?!
